AI & Automation Architect

Implementation and Systems

Location: Remote

Engagement: Contractor path with potential for full-time

About Ampra

Ampra helps established SMBs adopt AI and automation in practical, human-centered ways. Many of our clients are founder-led professional services firms and operating teams that rely on manual, repetitive workflows across sales, operations, client service, reporting, marketing, admin, and internal coordination.

We help teams save time, eliminate bottlenecks, improve quality, and free people up for higher-value, more fulfilling work. We are not here to chase AI hype or add complexity. We build useful systems that fit the way real businesses actually operate.

Our Fractional AI and Automation Support model pairs an AI Strategist with an AI & Automation Architect. The Strategist leads the client relationship focused on strategy, discovery, prioritization, workflow mapping, and adoption. The Architect is the builder who turns that strategy into working systems.

The Role

The AI & Automation Architect designs, builds, tests, documents, and improves AI-powered workflows, automations, integrations, and internal systems for our clients.

This is a hands-on implementation role for someone who thinks like a builder: practical, curious, client-centered, and resourceful when the path is unclear. You will join every client session to support technical discovery, workflow design, live building, and implementation follow-through between sessions.

The standard is useful, reliable systems that clients can understand, adopt, and maintain.

What You’ll Build

  • Automation workflows in n8n, Zapier, Make, or similar platforms

  • AI-assisted workflows using OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or similar tools

  • API integrations using REST, OAuth, webhooks, JSON, and platform documentation

  • Client-specific systems for intake, onboarding, reporting, CRM cleanup, lead routing, document processing, sales and marketing, meeting follow-up, internal knowledge, support triage, and other recurring workflows

  • Agentic or semi-agentic workflows with clear guardrails, human review, error handling, and measurable outputs

  • Documentation, training notes, and internal build summaries

What You’ll Own

  • Translate Strategist briefs and client conversations into practical implementation plans

  • Build, test, and improve automations during and between client sessions

  • Design workflows that are reliable, debuggable, and realistic for client teams to adopt

  • Handle credentials, permissions, client data, and workspace access with care

  • Document how systems work, key assumptions, known limits, and next steps

  • Train clients or teammates on how to use, maintain, and safely extend systems

  • Flag risks, unclear requirements, brittle dependencies, scope issues, and technical debt early

  • Contribute reusable patterns, templates, and standards to Ampra’s internal library

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years in automation, implementation, integrations, solutions engineering, RevOps, MarTech, software, technical consulting, or a related role

  • Significant production experience with n8n or comparable automation platforms (beyond training course and portfolio pieces). Strong n8n experience is preferred

  • Comfort with REST APIs, OAuth 2.0, webhooks, JSON, data transformation, error handling, and technical documentation

  • Working knowledge of Python or JavaScript when no-code tools are not enough

  • Hands-on experience applying AI tools or model APIs in business workflows

  • Strong written communication and documentation habits

  • High client empathy and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly

  • At least four hours of weekday overlap with US Pacific time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Google Workspace, Apps Script, HubSpot, Airtable, GHL, ClickUp, Jotform, Retool, Supabase, Clay, CRM and project management systems, or similar tools

  • Experience building workflows for established businesses

  • Experience with credential handling, permissions, data privacy, and security-conscious client work

  • Background in enablement, SOP creation and training.

  • Portfolio examples of production workflows, including the problem, design, error handling, and outcome

Values Fit

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Like being genuinely helpful and making things easier for others

  • Build trust through clear communication, follow-through, and transparency

  • Look for smarter, simpler ways to improve systems and outcomes

  • Stay curious about new tools, but grounded in what actually works

  • Take the work seriously without taking yourself too seriously

Success Looks Like

  • Working systems ship on time and solve real business problems

  • Manual, repetitive workflows become clearer, faster, and easier to manage

  • Clients understand how to use what was built

  • Documentation is clear enough for clients and teammates to maintain the system

  • Solutions are as simple as possible while still being reliable

  • Strategists receive clear technical feedback, effort estimates, blockers, and options

  • Client data, credentials, and access are handled responsibly

Assessment and Engagement Notes

Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a paid one-hour live technical working session where they build, debug, or extend a realistic workflow while explaining their decisions.

This role may begin as a flexible engagement depending on location, availability, and business needs, with the potential to grow into a full-time role over time.

Client work must happen through accounts and permissions managed by Ampra and/or Ampra clients. Personal accounts may not be used for client tenant work.
